Install ICS ON LG Optimus L3 E400 CyanogenMod 9

How To Install ICS ROM On LG L3 E400 Using CyanogenMod 9

[Updated with Blurred Screen Fix- Check bottom of post]




LG Optimus L3 E400 is a great entry level android phone. It comes with a 830 MHz CPU , 
350 MB RAM, 3 MP camera, 1GB internal Memory, Adreno 200 GPU and many more at
budget level. It comes with Gingerbread. It can easily handle ICS, but requires 
rooting to do so. 



Warning:

Before Installing The ROM You have To Install CWM Recovery. It can be done only after rooting your phone. Backup all your Data since installing new rom will erase phone data.

How To Install ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM)


  • First Root Your Phone
  • Next Go to Google play-store to download ClockworkMod ROM manager app.
  • Then you have to enable USB Debugging by ; Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging
  • After doing these steps correctly, Open ROM Manager App in your L3 E400
  • Now click the “Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery“. This process will download the ROM from ClockWorkMod. Better have Internet connection ready in your device.
  • After clicking, you will have to choose your phone model. Select your phone model from list and it will download the ROM. Then Reboot your phone.
"With that you have installed CWM recovery On L3 E400"


How To Update ICS ROM On LG L3 E400
 


  • First Root You Device
  • Next Install CWM Recovery
  • Download Official ICS CM9 ROM
  • Using USB Connect Your Phone To PC
  • Now Transfer Downloaded ROM to SD Card
  • After that you need to restart your phone in Recovery mode. Switch off the phone and restart in Recovery mode by pressing, Power Button + Volume Down + Menu button together. 
  • Now You will reach ClockWorkMod Recovery page. 
  • Now select Wipe option and make Wipe data. And also do Wipe Dalvik Cache. (Navigate by volume up and down keys, and select by home/menu buttton)
  • Next select “Install Zip from SD Card” and select “Choose zip from SD card”.
  • Now browse and select your downloaded ICS ROM
  • After some time ICS will be installed in your phone. 
  • Next select " Go Back" after ICS is successfully installed and then select “Reboot System Now”

Many have experienced a blur screen or graphics corruption . Modaco developer have created a STOCK CM9 KERNEL WITH THE FIX FOR THE BLURRED SCREEN ISSUE.

    I did everything you said and it worked perfect the cynogen mod come on the phone looked awesome, but i cant get the damn mobile network to work. i think its not reading my sim. Can you Please help me.....

    That is quite strange, because the LG L3 E400 we checked didn't have any network reception problems like that.

    Quite a few have reported similar issues.

    Let's see what we can do and we are sure that we can solve the issues ASAP.

    Dear Saurav Yadav,

    The problem you are experiencing is common for many devices running CM9 ICS. They wont be able to load SD card.

    Here is what you have to do-

    Go to Google play-store and download a file called" ICS SD Binder".

    after downloading run the app. When the home page is shown, tick the first option shown. ( " Bind SD to the new mount point" )
    you can also select " Delayed mounting".

    when you done this press " Save and reboot".

    There you go, when system reboots your SD card will be loaded as the mount point you named on Binder.


    I am positive that this will help you to solve the problem.

    I think you can solve that problem by flashing a baseband 10a radio file.

    Do that exactly like you did flashing CM9.
    I haven't used the file, so do it at your own risk, keep a nandroid backup.

    you need to connect with pc only to transfer your ics rom to sd card.

    To install ics you dont require pc

    Dear najia,

    Its normal as CyanogenMod doesn't come with preloaded gapps( Google Apps). You have to download them and flash them the same way you installed ICS ROM.

    For CM 9 signed gapps go to :-
    http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip

    1. Place the files on your SD card
    2. enter recovery mode
    3. select install zip from Sd card
    4. slect the gapps file.
    5. wait for it to flash completely
    6. reboot

    And all the google apps will be installed. For The Polaris viewer problem, just download any file manager from playstore and you are on your way.

    to najia,

    you can download the aroma filemanager.zip file from net.

    2. copy to sd card using pc.

    3. enter recovery mode

    4. flash the zip file like you did before

    after you installed aroma file manager, install apps throug it.

    let me check about playstore problem.

      Tick the delayed mounting option on binder. And check whether it works.

      I will explain hw to increase memory on l3. Its a bit lengthy, but done correctly, works flawlessly. Wait for a 5 days, as i am not at home. So cant make the post nw. Expect it on 20th of may. Loads of lg l3 customisation are available

      Try rebooting the device, the turn on wifi. Do this a few times. It may help.

      Download any wifi app which can turn it on. Check it.

      The lagging is not common, but i think you can increase performance by overclocking.

      I might be able to post few tweaks tomorrow, as i may get a pc to work. Can you wait a little bit more.

    Everything was fine during the process ..
    When im using the browser it stops and then I waited because i thought it was just loading but it really stopped ..
    I tried pressing the home key , power button , and back ..
    but none of them worked .. so in order to make it work again I remove the battery and put it in again

    Dear Najia,

    i heard there is a software called Lagfix available in playstore. Which solves the common issues of lagging in many devices based on 'trim bug'. Its available for free , i reckon you should try it out. May be it can fix the issue.

    If not we have to go for kernel updates and in final attempt reversal to stock rom.

    check whether the memory card can be detected in recovery mode.
    can you view all the files in the sd card?

    try to enter "install zip from sd card" option and check whether you can see any SD crad file/folders....

    Also the overclocking kernel i posted ( How To Overclock CM9 Lg L3 E400 ) has an USB FIX with it. You may try it if you want.

    Check first whether SD card gets detected on pc using card reader.

    I already check using card reader and it works!... And also the one that you said regarding Recovery mode I tried it and I can see inside the SD card..

    Before in gingerbread there's an application named PolarisViewer wherein we can see inside the SD. But in CM9 Polaris can't be installed and I need to know what other methods we can use...


    There's another problem in CM9 the Loudspeaker... Before in ginger the loudspeaker is working perfectly but now there's no loud speaker in calling... But when I played music it works

    Guys, my Lg optimus L3 is about 8 months old (rooted). Its perfect now ! I want to upgrade to ICS rom but thinking twice as i cant afford a new one incase the process goes wrong.

    Admin, other users out here, Is the abv method working ? what all safety precautions we need to take ? Please tell. In case the phone bricks, can we bring it back to normal ? Seriously i want to use ICS rom but these issues bugging off me as i cant get a new one easily ~~

    to get google apps, just flash a gapps zip file like you did with the rom.

    For CM 9 signed gapps go to :-

    for viewing your files in SD card, download aroma manager zip file and flash with the gapps( after gapps finishes)

    Sir my phone worked perfectly now thank you so much. My CPU frequency is set 1.1mhz and I can install many applications and games cause I can move it to my SD card.

    The only problem that I have now is the Loudspeaker

    For general info,

    The version of lg l3 - V11 or one with Rogers as carrier has made the system files read only.

    That makes it hard to try out this method.

    The main solution for the read only problem is to try reinstall the LG United Mobile Driver and try again. Also you can use Linux to root your L3.

    i have a problem regarding the CWM flashing on lg l3 e400 i've downloaded the app which is rom manager but it says on top recovery setup then gone into the next page selected my phone then flash recovery then got the downloading window btw im connected via wifi but after 30 mins its still downloading with 0% then error came up error downloading

    guys i have finally found a way to increse system memory using Links2SD on LG L3. I had tried this method earlier on HTC Explorer and worked fine. Just some modifications from there and it worked on LG L3 finely. checking it out a little more for any bugs/errors during the course of using. I will post the method soon. Be patient.....

    I'm Farhan from India, Chennai. I was really excited reading your blog that I followed all the steps clearly and tweaked my E400 Android 2.2 in to ICS9 4.0.4. It was wonderful and I enjoyed having it. I was even able to download Google play store with your instructions. Later when I started downloading the apps that I normally use, it was prompting me that since I have a custom ROM Installed the apps might not perform well and it was true. I did not had patience as I'm not a Dev so I restored everything back to the same. I would rather suggest all the Devs tools in one place where we can explore more and enjoy it. But still with your precious bits and pieces I had a nice day. I really appreciate your minds and talent. I'll be reading your blog frequently. Thanks Vishnu.

    There is one thing I forgot to ask you, My E400 which is running on Android 2.2 is not working properly. When I perform any task quickly, it restarts and there is no network at all when it comes back and I have to restart it again. But in ICS CM9 it wasn't happening. What should I do? Any suggestions or guidelines from you that I can get rid of this Issue?

    try installing aroma filemanager.zip from internet and flash it the same way as you did ics.

    yes i tried tht too bt it wont give me any app in my drawer like polaris viewr bt instead opens the file manager whn i hd flashed it n thn i go back to the recoverymod screen. i jst cant do it again n again if i hv to manage somthing. in addition i m faceing another problem. my cell hangs too much now. atfirst i thot it ws bcoz i hd chnged the cpu governer to performance so i reverted it back n it worked for me. but now it hs started again. i do wonder it might b batry problem coz i had faced some earlier too bt since i had replaced my battry recently i dont think this might b it.     It is cool to have the ICS because i think the phone is in better shape plus i really have the choice to install the apps that i want.

    Just a tip, when you have an apk file, you can send it to the phone via bluetooth and you can install it. that is what i did even if i had no file manager.

    There are no google apps (play store,gmail,talk, etc.) installed when you flash your phones, it is up to you to add, even the polaris viewer, you can download apk then send it to your phone via bluetooth or pc connection.

    for people having problems installing ICS, take note:

    1. root your phone. (instructions provided)
    2. connect to your pc.
    3. enable usb debugging.

    but first, make sure also that your phone is the lg l3 e400 - my software before was v10j-XXXXX

    and one good tip, this is what happened to me, without installing the CWM,and even before rooting, (in short,still the normal lg l3), i tried to shutdown my phone, then i tried to enter the recovery page, then all of a sudden,my phone was like reset to factory default,no files,apps in my storage (except for the external SD), the i started,rooting, CWM, then ICS, then boom, here it is, LG L3 - e400 with ICS

    try clocking at something lower than 900MHz, may be 880-890MHz or try clocking at higher nearly 1 GHz..

    Try it and comment on your result.If it didn't work we have to try some other methods.

    After CM9 update data doesn't work. :(

    APN settings don't save: I enter APN info, click save, and APN list still empty.
    Programs like APN database etc. say like "unrecognized sim card".
    I did factory reset but it didn't help.

    I still can make phone calls and use wifi. Data was working before this upgrade!
    any ideas? Thanks!
